It’s not just exercise. It’s expert support tailored to your body, goals and lifestyle — so you can feel better, move better, and take control of your health for good.

What does an exercise physiologist do?

An exercise physiologist is a qualified health professional who uses tailored exercise programs to help manage injuries, chronic conditions, and improve overall movement, strength, and health. They assess how your body moves, identify imbalances or weaknesses, and create safe plans to improve strength and function.

  • A man practicing a fitness exercise with a woman on a gray carpeted floor in a room with shelves. The man is holding the woman, who is seated, while she leans back with her arms extended.

    Assess how your body moves.

Exercise physiologists perform movement assessments to identify imbalances, weaknesses, or limitations in strength, mobility, balance, and coordination.

  • A person receiving acupuncture treatment with thin needles inserted into their skin on their back.

    Create personalised exercise programs

Each program is tailored to your individual goals, health conditions, lifestyle and physical capabilities, ensuring safe and effective progression over time.

  • A woman exercises on a stability ball while a trainer assists her in a gym.

    Improve strength, mobility and balance

Targeted exercises help restore movement, build muscle, enhance joint stability, and reduce the risk of falls or injury. Difficulty can increase over time for ongoing growth.

  • A person receiving a massage or treatment on their back in a spa or clinic setting, with a therapist applying pressure or therapy.

    Provide ongoing coaching and support

EPs guide you through each session, monitor progress, adjust programs as needed, and educate you to maintain long-term health and function.

Exercise Physiology FAQ

  • An Exercise Physiologist is a university-qualified health professional who specialises in exercise-based treatment for people with chronic conditions, injuries, or specific health needs. They’re trained to prescribe safe, tailored exercise programs to support long-term health and recovery.

  • You don’t need a referral for private sessions. If you’re accessing care through Medicare (EPC/CDM plan), DVA, or WorkCover, you will need a referral from your GP.

  • Exercise Physiologists can help manage a wide range of conditions, including:

    • Chronic pain and fatigue

    • Diabetes and heart disease

    • Osteoarthritis and osteoporosis

    • Obesity and weight management

    • Mental health conditions

    • Post-injury and post-surgical rehab

    • Neurological conditions (e.g. MS, Parkinson’s)

    • Work injuries and return-to-work programs

  • This varies depending on your condition and goals. Some people need just a few sessions with a home program, while others benefit from ongoing support — especially for chronic conditions or NDIS plans.

  • Your first session will involve an assessment of your movement, health history, and goals. From there, we’ll create an individualised exercise program and begin working through it under supervision.

  • Yes. If you’re eligible for a Medicare care plan (EPC/CDM), you may get up to 5 subsidised sessions. Private health insurance may also offer rebates — check with your fund for details.

    • Initial Consultation (60 min): $160

    • Follow-Up Session (30 min): $105

    • Medicare Chronic Care Plan (30 min): $95

Private health rebates may apply depending on your provider. Medicare rebates are available if you have a valid care plan from your GP (EPC/CDM).

If you’re unsure, feel free to contact our team — we’re happy to help.

  • Physios focus on diagnosing and treating injuries, often with hands-on techniques. EPs focus on long-term management using exercise. They often work together — physios help get you out of pain, and EPs keep you moving and progressing.
